Before I get into this…I work in customer service/ the food industry and every single one of you who do this job is very underappreciated and often your position in the job gets abused. That being said, at least speaking for myself:
Thank you. You are appreciated. Your job is a lot harder than people make it seem.
With that being said, I have an important message/alert that everyone in these types of jobs should be doing:
TREAT EVERY FOOD REQUEST/ SPECIAL REQUEST AS AN ALLERGY. EVEN IF IT SEEMS LIKE A TREND YOU DON’T KNOW THEIR LIFE. DON’T MAKE THEM POTENTIALLY SH*T THEIR BRAINS OUT. THANK YOU!
Now that the message is clear: Let me explain.
As someone who is in this field of work…I realize that when people come in, take a simple order and turn it into a minefield of special requests…it’s annoying, you want to roll your eyes, and spit in their food. I get it.
As someone who is vegan and has celiac’s disease aka gluten free (which is often mistaken as I am following a trend…I am not sweet cheeks, I am allergic) it’s required to be the most annoying customer in line.
I realize the swarms of people following trends or who are just…a pain in the arse, makes it quite easy to forget that people who have real allergies, beliefs, or morals around their food exist. But if we get to relaxed…we get the situation I got into last week.
Someone fed me bread, me being under the impression that it was gluten-free, and night was not pleasant. For neither me or the porcelain bowl.
Same goes for the ol’ “sugar-free” drink situation. You might not think it’s a big deal if you slipped up and used regular syrup…but if a diabetic gets that drink…and doesn’t take insulin thinking they are drinking a sugar free drink…that can cause issues.
So, while you are appreciated….let’s make sure we serve our customers good food, a smile, and the last shred of patience you have. And be sure to be vocal if a mistake is made…becuase it might not be a big deal! But on the other hand it could be a very pickled cucumber. Big dill. No? Sorry, I should really lose the puns.
That is all for today folks, I will see you for Wednesday Wellness! Let me know down below if you have had a horrid customer or a horrible experience as a customer regarding this issue! I would love to hear the horror stories.
