The Tea: What I spent my time on.

So recently I ran out of data on my phone, which is my main source of entertainment, social media outlets, etc. I, personally, don’t have WiFi at my house…so when the phone dried up…I didn’t know what to do with myself.

I, of course, have plenty to do without my phone, but I didn’t realize how much of my spare time…or even how much of my day was just consumed with getting distracted by my phone.

I had an app tracker app…spent roughly 6-9 hours on my phone out of my 24 hour days. I was shocked.  Now, during the day, it was quick text checks, a little post here and that would add up to about an hour. But at night, I would curl up and spiral into YouTube. For hours. That would lead me to be tired in the morning, so I would wake up last minute, go to work, be tired, play on the phone, back to bed and the YouTube videos.

The past couple days…without the social media constantly available on my phone…I went to bed early after reading 250 pages of a book I have been procrastinating reading for months. I woke up early, cleaned the house, did yoga, cleaned my car, cooked a nice breakfast.

It was a reminder how precious our time is. How we spend it can change the course of our lives. The phone is not the problem. How I use it is. So I have made the decision that I will no longer be buying the big “unlimited” data packages for my phone. Just texting and phone abilities and a few GB to check my email a couple times a week.

I truly didn’t realize how much of my day was wasted in all those little moments. I didn’t realize how much I miss the times where there was no phone to check, where my first go to was a book.

The message of this blog? It’s not that phones or social media is bad or evil. There is so many positives that they bring into my life. They are how I communicate with you. But the mere mindlessness in my daily life was appalling.

So, if you take anything with you today, time is the most precious commodity. Spend it mindfully and wisely.

How are you spending your time? What is one thing you love that you wish you had time to do? What is something that you waste time doing? Let me know in the comments!

That is all I have for today. I will see you all on Wednesday!
